Germany ordered 17 IRIS-T air defense systems for Ukraine: Scholtz told details
About it reports Bloomberg. Speaking on the air base on the northern coast, Scholz said that the purchase for the Bundesver of the six Iris-T, Diehl Defense produced, plays a key role in strengthening the European Initiative Sky Shield. Currently, 21 countries have joined the project called the European continent to be less vulnerable to air strikes during the growing geopolitical tension.
According to Scholtz, Iris-T, intended for Ukraine, is a supplement of up to seven supplied systems that have helped to knock over 250 Russian missiles and drones, thus saving many lives. Chancellor promised that four systems would be sent by the end of this year and the rest in 2025. "It shows that the support of Germany of Ukraine does not weaken. We planned in advance and timely secured contracts and financing so that Ukraine can continue to rely on us completely," he stressed.
According to the newspaper, since the full -scale invasion of Russia, the Scholz government has erected or promised the supply of military equipment worth about 28 billion euros ($ 31 billion), in value inferior to only the United States. According to the government official, by 2026 Ukraine will receive 24 IRIS-T system from Germany: 12 medium range and 12 smaller range. For the Bundesver, six Iris-T will cost about 950 million euros, the official added.
We will remind, in November last year in the Armed Forces assured that the installation of IRIS-T has proven itself for 100%, since it has one of the best radars, among those who are at the disposal of defense forces. In August, the Russians announced that near the village of Sinne, Sumy region of Ukraine, 11 km from the border with the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, the Iskander-M rocket was destroyed by the German Iris-T. However, Bild expert Julian Ryopke believes that it was a mulag.
