According to the Korean military, every hour the demarcation line crossed from 20 to 50 balls. The duration of the attack is 17 hours (from 20:00 on June 1 to 13:00 on June 2, local time). In addition to the "garbage attack" there were other threatening actions of North Korea in parallel, told the Ministry of Defense. The representatives of the department also explained why they did not knock the balloons but allowed them to land. The reason for such actions is the possibility of spraying the toxic substances that North Korea could fill the cylinders.
