Subsequently, the bicycles of Russian migrants were put up for sale in the city of Vaalima, which is located near the current checkpoint of the Russian-Finnish border. The publication notes that a variety of bicycles, including children's and mountain, presented at the auction. Most of them were produced in Russia. It was these bicycles that Russian migrants used to travel to Finland in 2023. As for the cost of bicycles, it ranged from 70 - 100 euros.
The most expensive bike was bought for 160 euros, and the cheapest - for 25 euros. Since the auction was successful, the Finnish customs intends to hold another similar event in the coming months. After the official Helsinki introduced a ban on car travel across the border, and even earlier forbade hiking, bicycles have become quite popular mode of transport.
It is worth noting that the Russian Federation specifically organized the flow of migrants from Middle Eastern and African countries to Finland. Russian intelligence services provided migrants to the border where people bought bicycles and crossed the Finnish border. However, after numerous repetitions of such situations, Finland completely closed the border with Russia. On July 20, 2023 it became known that the Finnish inventor URPO Merranmaa created a compact house on bicycle wheels.
