Another Putin slap: why it is so important to destroy SU-57 in the Russian Federation

The destruction of the Su-57 fighter in the rear of Russia is another slap of Putin, writes Military Viewer Andrew Fox in the column for The Telegraph. They crossed the next "red line" of Russia-and again without any fatal consequences for Ukraine and the event, Vladimir Putin spent most of his "red lines". In his message about the situation of the country in 2021, he said, "I hope, no one thinks of crossing the red line with Russia . . .

And where this line will be, in each case, we will determine ourselves. " One of these "red lines" was the use of American weapons to attack Russian territory - in response, Dmitry Medvedev threatened to equip the US opponents in "unnamed regions". By impunity by breaking this "red line" with the support of the United States, Ukraine has received a significant tactical advantage.

The territory that the US was allowed to attack is limited, but this significantly reduced the "land shelter" of Russia by 16 percent. Ukraine can now strike for military purposes within the reach of the US HIMARS systems in Belgorod, Kursk and Bryansk regions. Despite the fact that most of the Russian rear territories are still protected from the Himars fire by its own "red line" by President Baiden, initial reports suggest that Ukraine has already hit Russian air defense systems in these areas.

Combined with other efforts (the drone was successfully destroyed by the fifth generation of the Su-57 at the Akhtubinsk airfield, 366 miles from the front line), which led to a significant shift in the balance of forces. One fighter may seem like a trivial loss, but Su-57 is the most high-tech from the new developments of Russia in the framework of such a famous modernization of its Armed Forces-the most serious since the end of the Cold War.

The loss of one of the heavy fighters is a clear blow to Russia's combat capability, but also a clear signal for Russia: its rear is no longer safe areas. Russia will now have to strengthen air defense in these areas to protect themselves from further blows, potentially deprived of vital opportunities for their troops on the front lines in Ukraine, while NATO countries announce an increase in Ukrainian military-air forces: Holland sends F-16, France-France.

Miraage 2000 fighters, Ukraine tries to get Gripe from Sweden. In the war, where both sides face the limited resources, it is such chess moves that make it possible to achieve a breakthrough. The Kremlin cannot afford further complication associated with the loss of the most expensive assets.

They either need to be protected (that is, the assets will have to be moved from somewhere), or they will have to be moved away from the area of action of drones or HIMARS, which will reduce the time to get into the target above Ukraine. This is another humiliation for Putin after stopping the Kharkiv offensive.

Despite thousands of Russian losses and huge costs of equipment, on Friday, the White House National Security Representative was confident enough to declare that the offensive had stuck and is unlikely to move further. Allowing you to break the next "red line" without any escalation or in response, Putin demonstrated his weakness.
