The DPSU does not exclude attacks of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Sumy region: what purpose does the enemy pursue

The spokesman of the State Border Guard Service Andriy Demchenko noted that despite the lack of forces in this direction, Russians can attack. Therefore, further increased defense in the region is required. The representative of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Andriy Demchenko stated that the likelihood of an offensive of the Russian forces in Sumy region was not excluded.

According to him, Russian troops can try to attack in this region to distract the Ukrainian forces from other areas of the front. The SSSU spokesman told this on May 21 in an interview with Radio Liberty. Demchenko stressed that Russian troops can attack the Sumy region, as is the case in the Kharkiv direction. "The enemy can at any time, even though he does not have enough strength, try to do something like that," he said.

The main purpose of such actions is to stretch the front line and to weaken Ukrainian defense in other directions. Therefore, Demchenko notes that further strengthening in the region, where the border with Russia is more than 560 kilometers, which requires considerable strength to maintain defense. "As long as we have such a neighbor, of course, we need to be prepared for the development of any situations," said the State Border Guard spokesman.
