NATO's rejection and control over Crimea: Putin has declared key conditions for war in Ukraine

Thus, the Russian Federation proposed exchange of territories and agreed to abandon small areas in the north of Sumy and Kharkiv region, but demanded that Kiev gave way to large territories in the east of the country. In general, the final nature of these proposals remains unclear. The sources of the publication explain that it is unknown whether the Kremlin's initial maneuver for the bargaining, or the final proposal that is not subject to view.

The basic conditions put forward by Russia according to Reuters: the publication emphasizes that these requirements are contrary to the key principles of Ukraine. In particular, Kiev has repeatedly stated that it would disagree on any territorial concessions, because the maintenance of Donetsk region is of strategic importance for the defense of the country.

In addition, Ukrainian authorities and allies in Europe reject the possibility of recognizing Russian control over Crimea and insist on maintaining sanctions against Moscow. Ukraine's participation in NATO is also enshrined in the Constitution as a strategic goal of the state. Before that, according to journalist Axios Barack Ravid, Donald Trump during a telephone conversation with Vladimir Zelensky and NATO leaders stated that a fast peace agreement was a better option than a ceasefire.

At the same time, he referred to the position of the President of the Russian Federation, which allegedly prefers a comprehensive arrangement to end the war. It should be noted that US President Donald Trump announced during a discussion with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky and leaders of European countries, which plans to organize tripartite talks between Ukraine and Russia on August 22.
