"Sanctions they are unprofitable": an expert on the main causes of poor restrictions for Russian Federation

In Europe, they consider the possibility of imposing a 13th package of sanctions, and in the meantime, the aggressor country buys parts for weapons production in the world market. Political scientist Volodymyr Fesenko explained that it prevents the sanction mechanism more effective.

Political scientist, chairman of the Board of the Center for Applied Political Studies "Penta" Vladimir Fesenko named three problems because of which the effect of sanctions against the Russian Federation is not powerful. In particular, it is about the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation. According to a study conducted by Vladimir Fesenko, there have been several times more companies that produce military products in Russia in recent years.

"Russia has expanded its military industrial complex. And only a third of the military enterprises of the Russian Federation is under sanctions. In fact, these enterprises do not work with the West, do not have bills there, but they need to be made on sanctions, because it will help limit their work in the foreign market" , - says Fesenko.

Each package of sanctions of the event expands the number of objects and entities under sanctions and extends restrictions on additional spheres of the Russian economy, however, there are "but" that limit this effect. "In the US, it works better and even they have problems. Here as a war: one party strengthens sanctions, and the other adapts to them, looking for options, technologies, forms of bypassing sanctions. And this is a constant process. So it will continue. So. So.

There is a kind of struggle of sanctions and methods of their bypass, " - explains the expert. "We know that even one country, such as Hungary, can either block the introduction of a package of sanctions, or overshadow the conditions. So democratic order in this case, with all the benefits of democracy, slows down and complicates the process of reconciliation of sanctions," Fesenko added. Fesenko considers the next problem of the effectiveness of the sanction against the Russian Federation.

"For example, so with importing Russian Uranus. I would point out that this topic is being discussed now. Or a similar situation is sanctions against" Rosatom ". Experts, including the sanction group of Yermak-Macfola (International Working Group of Independent Experts on Sanctions on Russia. -Ed. .

) Since 2022, they propose sanctions against Russian "Rosatom", but since there are nuclear power plants built in several countries in several EU countries, it also gives them fuel, it is critical for the energy systems of these countries. Therefore, they are not ready to impose sanctions now Against the Russian Federation and Rosatom. A similar situation was with the purchase of Russian gas.

Only after the Russian Federation began to reduce the sale of its gas to Europe, there began to impose restrictions. And so the countries receiving pipeline gas, oil, in particular, Hungary, were purchased. , Slovakia, partly the Czech Republic, because they are very attached to these supplies and cannot be abandoned. At the same time, they also reduce this purchase. Since economic interests work, therefore do not impose total sanctions.
