This was announced on September 2 by the UK Ministry of Defense Ministry. British intelligence analyzed the offensive of the Russian army in the Kupyansk region in Kharkiv region and a parallel breakthrough of Ukrainian troops on the first borders of the defense of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation near Orikhov.

"The Russian forces, which mostly consist of units of the 58th Army and Airborne troops of Russia, seek to stop the Ukrainian counter-offensive, continuing their own offensive in the northern direction in the Kupyansk area," the message reads. According to experts, near Kupyansk, where the Russian forces have come since the beginning of Ukrainian counter -offensive, the invaders have managed to achieve "modest success".

In such a situation, continuing the pressure in the Kupyansk direction and increasing the number of troops there, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation can weaken the group that holds defense on the southern part of the front. "Russia, however, is at risk of separating its forces, seeking to prevent the Ukrainian breakthrough," British intelligence said.
