"Homemade air defense": Ukraine converted American AIM-9m to "Earth-Air Land"-FT

According to journalists, the rockets "will help Ukraine to survive winter", saving its energy infrastructure from possible Russian attacks. Ukrainian experts have made changes to the AIM-9M Sidewinder-based missiles provided by the United States, which were originally intended for use on F-16 fighters. These missiles can now be used as anti-aircraft missile air defense complexes. About it reports Financial Times.

It is noted that the AIM-9M missiles were decommissioned and modified for the purpose of using them for the Earth launches in the interests of the Ukrainian armed forces and air defense systems. "We have reworked them. We found a way to run them from the ground. This is a kind of homemade air defense," the unnamed Ukrainian official told the newspaper. According to his statement, this is a good example of the transformation of equipment that seemed outdated, to useful weapons.

"We have a concerted decision: we take something outdated and do something else," the official said. In addition, he noted that modernized missiles will promote Ukrainian energy infrastructure during the winter, providing protection against possible attacks from Russia. AIM-132 is an aviation rocket that accelerates to a speed of 3 strokes and has a range of starting more than 25 km. However, according to experts with Defense Express, in the ground, its range can be reduced to 10 km.

The plane weighs 88 kg and has a length of 2. 9 meters. It is given to the target of the AIM-132 with the help of infrared head of self-introduction, and the laser sensor corresponds to the undermining. The Supacat truck is also noticeable that the rocket runs on the airpill. A radar station was installed on the car that is required to track the situation in the air.
