Damage from Russian aggression: Ukrainians through "action" can apply for compensation

According to the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, to register the appeal of Ukrainians will need an act from local authorities on inspection of damaged or destroyed residential real estate. For Ukrainians, in April 2024, access to the International Register will be opened, where citizens will be able to register applications for damages caused by Russian aggression. This will be done through the action portal. This was announced on March 25 by the press service of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.

It is noted that first appeals from the citizens of Ukraine will be formed on the basis of the existence of an act of inspection of damaged or destroyed residential real estate received from local authorities. Over time, it is planned to allow the submission to the Register of losses even if the person has not contacted the local authorities.

Subsequently, through the "action", it will be possible to apply for: in the future, legal entities and the state will be able to submit the statements for business and infrastructure. As the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for innovation, the development of education, science and technology explained in his Telegram-channel, the Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mikhail Fedorov, the Register was created under the auspices of the Council of Europe last May.

To date, 43 countries and the European Union, including the USA, Japan and Canada, have been joined by the Register. The main purpose of the Register is to record all the statements about the damage caused by the war to pay fair reparations to Ukraine and citizens. "Ukraine with international partners is working on the creation of a mechanism that converts information from the Register to the decision on payment of compensation to Ukraine and those who suffered from the war," the official said.

At the same time, as the Executive Director of the Register of Losses caused by the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine Markian Klyuchkovsky, it is expected that there will be more than a million applications from the injured Ukrainians. Through the integration of "action" into branched infrastructure of digital services and public registers in Ukraine will facilitate the process of collecting evidence to be added to the statement.
