Putin wants to provoke a humanitarian disaster in Ukraine: what Starmer promised Zelensky

Share: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced his intention to increase aid to Ukraine ahead of winter, when Russia may increase its attacks on the energy system. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that the Kremlin is trying to create a humanitarian catastrophe. According to The Guardian, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said this week that "enormous steps forward" had been taken to support Ukraine, but, he said, "we can do more" in the field of long-range capabilities.

He called Great Britain "the closest supporter and ally" of Kyiv. During a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi in London, Starmer emphasized that Great Britain will continue to coordinate actions with the coalition of states that support Ukraine. "Vladimir, it is a great pleasure to welcome you back here in Downing Street to a really important meeting between the two of us, both bilaterally and for the coalition of the willing," the prime minister said.

He emphasized that the British side "reaffirms its unquestionable commitment to supporting Ukraine and overcoming the challenge of Russian aggression. " Starmer emphasized that Putin is showing an "absolute unwillingness to act" by continuing to attack civilians and children. "I really think that this week we can really put pressure on Russian oil and gas. Huge steps forward have already been taken this week.

We can do even more in terms of capabilities, including long-range ones, and continue working in the coalition of the willing on security guarantees," said the head of the British government. Sitting next to the British Prime Minister, the President of Ukraine emphasized the danger that winter brings to the civilian population. "Putin wants to create a humanitarian catastrophe in Ukraine this winter," Zelenskyy said.

He agreed with Starmer's assessment that the Russian dictator has no intention of ending the war, but rather is intensifying attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. "We are not alone in this situation. . . since the beginning of the war, but especially now," the President of Ukraine emphasized. As a reminder, Great Britain remains one of the key partners of Ukraine, supplying military aid, air defense equipment and humanitarian support.
