The US Army showed F-35 fighter with a mysterious mirror coating on the tail (photo)

From time to time, the US military is testing on F-35C aircraft different experimental coating. Their goal is to reduce the visibility of the fighter. On the US aircraft carrier, USS Abraham Lincoln photographed F-35C fighter with an unusual mirror. About it reports The War Zone. In the US Army continue to experiment in order to reduce the visibility of the aircraft, most likely in the infrared spectrum.

For the first time, A-35C during planting on aircraft carrier was photographed with mirror elements on the tail part. It changes sharply from opaque to transparent, depending on the angle of view. It also changes from dark elements to shiny, and it looks like three different materials. The publication states that the most interesting is the subdivision to which the F-35 is the VFA-125 Rugh Raiders squadron.

It is based on the Lemur air base and teaches the Navy and Marines' crews to operate the fighter. That is, the unusual F-35C does not belong to the test or frontal squadron. VFA-125 aircraft could be involved in order to test a new cover in intensive operation to collect wear data. However, there are signs that the new coating will be installed on other fleet planes. That is why the mirror part can have three different coatings to compare their characteristics.
