T-64 tank. What is known about the main machine of the Armed Forces and how it was created by Kharkiv designers

During the existence of the USSR, a dozen T-64 modifications were created, as well as in independent Ukraine, designers have created many versions of the tank. The Armed Forces is at war on the T-64 from the very beginning of the Russian invasion in 2014. After the collapse of the USSR, the Ukrainian army chose the main tank in the Armed Forces T-64. During its existence, the car has undergone more than one modernization and has some advantages over the Russian T-72.

The focus understood how the T-64 showed themselves in the war, which was capable of the tank, and how they created a future VTT in Kharkiv. The work on the new tank began in 1951 under the direction of Alexander Morozov to replace the T-54 and T-55. The tank was developed under the names of the object 430, 435 and 432.

The reason for the development of the newest tank is the understanding of the Soviet leadership that machines will not be able to effectively resist promising medium and heavy NATO tanks. The first variant of the object 430 was created with 100mm D-54TS gun, working on a version with a gun 122 mm D-25C. The next 10 years in the USSR created different prototypes and came to the fact that the object 432 was adopted in 1967 under the name T-64.

The tank received an 115-mm smooth-bore gun D-68 and an ammunition with 40 shots. The fire control system had an optical stabilized sight. Some researchers believe that Ukrainian designers were the first in the world to install a full charging machine in the tank for 30 shots. For the first time for the Soviet Union, the tank received a combined booking. It is worth noting that despite the fact that the tank was officially adopted in 1967, mass production began in 1963.

and by December 1, 1965, 218 tanks were manufactured. In total, the T-64 was made in the object of 432 about 600-1200 units. However, none of them are in service because they were all upgraded to the T-64A. The problem of all Soviet tanks is the presence of a huge number of modifications. The machines were constantly improved, but without unification.

Only during the existence of the USSR did the following modernizations created: in addition to this installation of the automatic charging machine gave high speed up to 10 shots per minute, but at the same time it received a major drawback - the crew was actually surrounded by a ammunition. Neither Ukrainian nor Russian engineers in their tanks have never lost their tanks.

Due to the secrecy of the Soviet Union, the T-64 tanks were not supplied to the Soviet Union and only once shown them at the Parade on May 9 in 1985. After the collapse of the USSR, as already stated, in Ukraine was elected T-64 the main combat tank, because in Kharkiv there was both a design bureau that developed it and the Malyshev plant, on which it was made. According to some of its characteristics, the T-64 prevails T-72, which was created as a simpler mobilization tank.

The latter was produced at the Soviet enterprise "Uralvagonzavod", which still remains the only plant for the T-72. The first baptism for the T-64BV was a military conflict in Moldova in the early 1990s. The forces of the so-called PMR were able to capture 10 T-64BV tanks and 4 APCs. Armored vehicles were used during the storming of the city Bender. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2014, the Armed Forces fighters have used T-64 tanks in various modifications.

It should be noted here that after the collapse of the USSR KB named after Morozov and Kharkiv armored plant continued to develop the modernization of the T-64: in short, they all received improved reservation, newer optics, the best engine and fire control system. Bulat received improved dynamic Duplet Protection and improved engine. The military said it became more difficult, but did not receive a digital fire control system. It remained analog.

Ukraine has also agreed with one EU countries to repair and modernize the T-64. The network has recently shown what the T-64BV sample of 2022 looks like. They have already installed digital devices near Mehvoda. Tankers say that the T-64 has a better passage thanks to a slightly different Husley structure than the T-72. During the 9 years of the war and more than a year of the full-scale war of the Armed Forces, the T-64 is still in service in various modernizations.

They are used for battle from closed positions to strike. Tanks also have direct combination with Russian machines, but such episodes do not occur too often. And repeatedly the Ukrainian tankers came out of battle winners, but it also depends on the crew. Ammunition, which did not improve or produced in Ukraine, remain a problem for the Armed Forces. In this, too, the Soviet approach is different from the western approach.
