Following the example of the Grain Agreement: Ukraine wants negotiations, but not directly with Putin - the media

In July 2022, Kyiv and Moscow signed agreements with the help of mediators in the UN and Turkey. This allowed the Ukrainian side to restore exports from the Black Sea. Now, after a breakthrough in the Armed Forces in the Kursk region, the situation can be repeated. Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called the conditions for a referendum on the territories of our country.

Ukraine wants to finish the war through peace talks, but does not intend to speak directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This may be an example of a "grain agreement". This is stated in Politico. The operation of the Armed Forces in the Kursk region strengthens Kyiv's position in the issue of peace talks, journalists write. They can be held even if Moscow refuses to send their diplomats for personal meetings.

Such a model of diplomacy, which is allegedly suitable for Kiev, was already held in July 2022. Then Ukraine was able to restore exports of grain from the Black Sea, but without concluding a direct agreement with Russia. Within this format, Moscow and Kiev worked on separate agreements under the supervision of the UN and Turkey, which acted as mediators.

The Ukrainian side is convinced that the breakthrough of the Armed Forces in the Kursk region has only strengthened the position in the negotiations and this will lead to a fair result. "In the Kursk region, we clearly see how a military instrument is objectively used to persuade Russia to enter a fair negotiation process," - quoted by the adviser of the Presidential Head of President Mikhail Podolyak. At the same time, the Kremlin is considered different.

After the operation in the Kursk region, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the Ukrainian side allegedly posed a threat to nuclear energy facilities, so there is nothing to talk about. Two anonymous high -ranking Ukrainian officials in the Politico comment stated that if the Black Sea model is still used, then the dead end, which was observed at the front for many months, would be able to overcome.

"This is the plan we strive for," says the source of journalists who are close to the President's office. At the same time, the authors of the material do not deny that there is a long way ahead before diplomacy begins to work. Turkey intends to continue to act as a mediator to end the war between Ukraine and Russia. Politico journalists appealed to the Turkish Foreign Ministry to receive new comments on this, but there was no answer.

It should be noted that at the end of July, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on a possible diplomatic settlement of the war and named the conditions for holding a referendum on Ukrainian territories. The head of state stated that he could not make a decision alone and requires the "will of the Ukrainian people". A referendum is not the best option, because then the Kremlin head will consider it a victory, but it all depends on the opinion of Ukrainians.

"We can turn our territories diplomatic," Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the end of the war. We will remind, on August 20 it was reported that Russia was not interested and not interested in meaningful negotiations with Ukraine, according to the report of the American Institute of War Study. Analysts are convinced that the Kremlin is trying to ensure that everything looks like Ukraine, not the Russian Federation, hinders peace negotiations.
