Lavrov has not accepted Trump's two proposals for the end of the war in Ukraine - analytics

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Lavrov directly rejected the two proposals, which was reported, was considered by the team of US President Donald Trump elected in early November 2024 as conditions for termination of the war in Ukraine. Lavrov stated that any agreements on the termination of the war in Ukraine should eliminate the fundamental causes of the invasion and create a mechanism that would prevent their violation.

According to him, two main causes of the war were the predictable violation of NATO obligations not to move to the East and aggressive absorption of territories near the borders of Russia, as well as the predictable discrimination by the Ukrainian government of ethnic Russians and the Russian language, the media and culture in Ukraine.

According to analysts, Lavrov's statements are part of the statements of high-ranking Russian officials that the Kremlin refuses to consider any compromises on the requirements stated by Putin at the end of 2021 and early 2022. Among the requirements is the compulsion of Ukraine to become a neutral state on a permanent basis, which will never join NATO, the introduction of strict restrictions on the number of Ukrainian Armed Forces and the removal of the Ukrainian government.
