Such ammunition is based on ampoules with toxic substances, such as chlorocetophenone (CN) and chlorobenzalmalononitril (CS) or "raw gas". These chemicals are forbidden to use as weapons by the 1969 Geneva Protocol. For the manufacture of homemade ammunition is used: the design of the ammunition involves the addition of a plasty to a grenade passion, fastening of ampoules with a poisonous substance and fixing all elements with adhesive tape.

The total weight of such a device is 300 grams, which can be compared with the mass of the RGD-5 (310 g) or POP-17 (350 g), which are also used for drones. In this case, the declared radius of the lesion is 15 meters, and the main purpose is the defeat of the enemy's living force by poisonous substances. According to the Command of Support forces of the Armed Forces, in March 2025 there were 767 cases of use of such ammunition, which are considered illegal means of war.

And since February 2023, 7730 cases of use of hazardous chemicals against the Ukrainian military have been recorded. In addition, a significant number of attacks were carried out with the use of unspecified chemicals. "If the term is used dangerous chemicals of unidentified type, then their use occurred at a place where it is impossible to take a sample.

If it is possible to take, it is usually a substance CS, CN, sometimes ammonia," - explained the head of the communications department of the Armed Forces forces Lieutenant Colonel Maxim Kravchuk. He added that Russian troops use such ammunition in the areas of active offensive, which complicates their identification and gathering of evidence to further bring Russia to justice for violation of international law.
