It is about the project of large landing ships of the project 117113 "Kayman", which seem to receive modern types of weapons and systems of counteraction to various threats, in particular, from drones. At the end of December, the Navy of Russia stated that the landing ships of the class "Ivan Gren" would be modernized as part of the new project 117113 "Kayman".

The new project, developed by the Nevsky Project Bureau, aimed at increasing the amphibious capabilities of the Russian Navy, with a focus on modern weapons, improved protection and integration with unmanned technologies. This was reported on December 9 by Army Recognition. The project 117113 "Kayman" is a modernization aimed at eliminating the shortcomings of previous models and expanding the capabilities of landing operations.

Yes, compared to the previous variant, the tank hold and part of the living quarters will be expanded. The length of the ship is 150 meters, the width is 19. 5 meters, and the watertone reaches 8,000 tons. The ship is designed for a battery for 30 days, capable of carrying a crew of 120 people, 400 marines, 40 units of armored vehicles, as well as helicopters and various drones.

The peculiarity of the project was the use of modular structures, which allows to adapt the ship to specific combat missions. For example, modern systems of counteracting threats are allegedly provided. In particular, it is a complex of counteraction to marine and air drones. The new ship will have to be equipped with artillery systems AK-630 and AK-630M-2 "Duet", large caliber machine guns and integrated fire control systems.

However, apparently, it is not necessary to speak about the present weapons, since the AK-630 "duet" was adopted in 2007. At the same time, the observers say that Ivan Gren's ships began to develop in the early 2000s to replace outdated Soviet large landing ships (VDK) 1171 Tapir, which have served since the 1960s. The main ship, Ivan Gren, was put into operation in 2018 and the second, Petro Morgunov,-2020.

These ships had a water tonality of 6,000 tons and could carry up to 36 armored personnel carriers and 300 Marines. In 2019, the fleet was replenished with modernized versions - "Vladimir Andreev" and "Vasyl Trushin". Their watertone increased to 8,000 tons, they received updated 16D49 engines and improved opportunities to work with aviation, including KA-52K shock helicopters. In addition to the modernization of Ivan Gren class, Russia focuses on the development of larger landing ships.

The project is 23900, which includes ships of type "Ivan Rogov", designed to replace the Class "Mysral". These vessels of 40,000 tons and 220 meters long will be able to carry up to 900 marines, 75 units of armored vehicles and up to 21 helicopters. Their introduction is expected by the end of the 2020s. It is noteworthy that Russia develops a project against the background of the sad experience of using the VDC in the Black Sea.
