A year after the announcement: the world tobacco giant closes its business in Russia and Belarus

The British American Tobacco (Bat) global tobacco concern stated that it finally leaves Russia and Belarus and would not have any financial benefits from current sales in these regional markets. The Concern officially concluded an agreement on the sale of Russian and Belarusian business in accordance with international and local legislation, as well as other famous world brands. This was reported by the British American Tobacco press service.

"The buyer is a consortium headed by members of the Bat Bat Russia, which will be fully owned by both businesses after completion. After completing, these enterprises will be known as ITMS Group," the statement said. The company emphasized that the transaction will be completed within the next month, when certain conditions will be fulfilled.

"Upon completion of the BAT, it will no longer have the presence in Russia and Belarus and will not receive financial benefits from current sales in these markets," the company emphasized in the company's press release. In March 2022, British American Tobacco reported that she would continue the sale of products produced in Russia, but will suspend investments in the country. Almost a year later, the company announced the full exit from the Russian market.

"We have completed the revision of our presence in Russia. The context is very complicated, exceptionally changing and unstable. We have come to the conclusion that the ownership of BAT business in Russia is no longer stable in the current environment," the company said a year ago. British American Tobacco produces cigarettes Dunhill, Kent, Vogue, Rothmans, Pall Mall, Lucky Strike and Java, as well as a device for heating Glo and NEO tobacco. All trademarks will be owned by Russian business.
