According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Urmas Rinsal, Tallinn will seek political consensus throughout the Schengen visa space to impose additional sanctions against Russian citizens. "As a foreign minister, I urge the governments of other European countries to impose additional internal sanctions to stop the trips of Russian aggressor citizens to Europe, and to work together on the closure of the Schengen visa for Russian citizens," he said.
On August 11, Estonia decided to prohibit entry into its territory to Russian citizens who have Schengen visas issued by this country. The ban will come into force on August 18. Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky argued that a visa ban for Russian citizens could be one of the most effective measures against the Russian Federation.
