This type of weapon produces a wide ray of energy capable of knocking down several drones at the same time - so it can be an effective way of counteracting "drones". However, they note that such weapons can be less effective to protect infrastructure. So far, technology is at an early stage of development. The Rapidstroyer system is transported to the body of trucks, and it requires a lot of energy.
"Powerful microwave systems are potentially a very effective tool for protecting from a large number of [drones] and perhaps winged missiles, provided that their wide cone does not create more problems than solves," said Justin Bronk, an official of the Royal Joint Unified Defense Institute in London.
He noted that the systems can work well in the case of their placement, for example, in the desert, or on warships in the sea, or "on the front line, when you do not worry very much about the enemy flies", but stressed that microwave weapons could not be a "universal solution". During the tests in the United Kingdom, two "queues" of eight drones were neutralized, and more than 100 drones were destroyed.
