The State Duma of the Russian Federation allowed commanders to punish Russian invaders: in ISW analyzed

Some Russian deputies and ultra -nationalists have criticized the initiative. In particular, it was suggested that new rules are just a new element of censorship. On July 24, the State Duma of Russia adopted an amendment that will allow the Russian commanders to punish subordinates for the use of personal phones on the front line. This is stated in the report of the American Institute for War Study (ISW).

The initiative has already provoked a negative reaction from the ultradranationalists and some deputies of the Duma. Several Russian parliamentarians opposed innovations and suggested that commanders resolve such issues through military police. Russian guidance bloggers have suggested that officials seek to actually use punishment to resolve personal conflicts or censorships. Personal phones are used by the occupiers to record and spread complaints about command.

In addition, the ultra -nationalists have predicted potential negative effects on the forefront, as invaders in the organization of command, logistics and fighting rely on unprotected communications. The collaborator Oleg Tsarev warned that the changes would hit the image of the head of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation Andrei Belousov. According to him, the idea is clearly owned by the ministry.

The Russians also accused the deputies for not knowing the realities of war in Ukraine. "It remains unclear whether the Russian military command will be able to impose punishment for the use of personal devices in Ukraine, and the Russian military will probably be extremely difficult to eliminate its dependence on unprotected personal devices to perform many advanced tasks," the analytics added.
