By mid -spring: Finland continued to close the border with Russia

The border crossing points between Finland and Russia will remain closed until April 14, 2024. This decision is argued by the Finnish authorities by the fact that Russia continues its hybrid operation on the border. The Finland government on Thursday, February 8, has decided to continue the closure of the border with Russia for another two months. Also, you cannot apply for international protection at any checkpoint. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country reports.

The department insists - in the current circumstances, this is a necessary and proportional event. Artificial migration poses a serious threat to national security and public order of Finland. The government is convinced that as soon as the border crossing points are opened - such migration will resume. "We have not seen the signs that Russia is changing its behavior. On the contrary, the information we received confirms our assessment that Russia continues its hybrid surgery.

We have reason to believe that such a situation will remain some time. If not thousands of migrants who are now near the border by Russia and are waiting for the opportunity to cross Finland, " - said Minister of Internal Affairs Marie Rantanen. Artificial migration is one of Russia's pressure and the way of influencing Finland and the EU's safety and social stability, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said. On November 9, 2023, Finland forbade the Russians to enter the country on bicycles.
