Race Arms: The Russian Federation blocked the UN resolution on nuclear weapons in space

Washington does not rule out that Russia can place a nuclear object of space base in the orbit of the Earth, the electromagnetic radiation of which will fail the large network of satellites as a result of the explosion. On Wednesday, Russia vetoed the UN Security Council resolution, developed by the United States, which called on countries to prevent arms in space. About it reports Reuters. Vasily Neenzi, the Russian ambassador to the UN, accused Washington of attempting to tarnish Moscow and stated that Russia would begin negotiation with members of the Council in the near future regarding its own project of the resolution aimed at preserving peace in space.

"We want a ban on the placement of any weapon in outer space, not just (weapons of mass destruction-ed. ),"-said Neenza. The project of the resolution was brought to the vote of the United States and Japan after almost six weeks of negotiations. He voted for 13, China refrained, and Russia was vetoed.

Representatives of the US intelligence, according to three people who are familiar with their conclusions, believe that the Russian Federation in the orbit of the Earth can accommodate an object that is a nuclear bomb of space base, the electromagnetic radiation of which will malfunction of large satellite networks. John Kirby, a spokesman for the White House National Security Council, said Russia had not yet unfolded such weapons.

The United States initiated the vote in the Radbeza for the project of the resolution, which calls for preventing arms race in outer space. Washington has already accused Moscow of developing a sipping nuclear weapon, which should be brought into space. The UN text would confirm the obligation to comply with the cosmos agreement and urge states to "actively promote the purpose of peaceful use of outer space and prevent arms race in space.
