Kyiv and Allies discuss the strengthening of air defense systems in the western ...

Patriot from Poland. Why is it important to protect the West of Ukraine from Russian missiles, not southeast?

Kyiv and Allies discuss the strengthening of air defense systems in the western part of the country. Experts surveyed by focus say that from a military point, logic is: in the region there are underground gas storage facilities, aerodromes and other important facilities. Meanwhile, the eastern and southern regions are shot daily with ballistic missiles and the kab. The Ukrainian authorities think how to protect the western regions of the country from Russian missiles and drones.

Together with the colleagues from Poland and NATO representatives, the idea of transferring Polish Patriot air defense systems is discussed, but the last word is according to Washington, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleb. The theme of the dialogue is to send two Patriot batteries and one SAMP-T battery. Kiev knows in which countries they are located, and the transfer of these systems is a question of several weeks, says the Foreign Minister.

Kuleba argues the importance of the plan in that Patriot settings will protect NATO countries from arrivals during the massive strikes of the Russian Army in Ukraine. "When we sit behind closed doors, I say all my partners: my dear. Want to rent, let's rent, want to cover your border, will cover your border. But give [aircraft setting]," the official said . At the same time, the minister did not specify how Polish air defense systems will protect the western regions of Ukraine.

Whether the Polish military will knock Russian missiles out of their territory or the installations will come to Ukraine. Warsaw has not yet confirmed the Kuleba's words about the Patriot SAC negotiations, and Polish President Andrzej Duda directly stated on April 12 that he directly to send the system to Kiev. Poland has not yet completed the deployment of these systems and only allows the transfer of Soviet missiles to Kiev. "We are just starting to create this system in Poland, it is not ready.

Poland is yet to convey nothing to Ukraine, even if we wanted," said the Polish leader at a press conference following the meeting of the leaders of the Interior States in Vilnius. The priority goals of the Russians in the west of Ukraine have recently been underground gas storage facilities and their infrastructure. Since 2023, the stroke has also been conducted by the airfield in Starokostiantyniv-according to the Russian Federation, preparing for the adoption of F-16 aircraft.

According to the former deputy chief of the Armed Forces General Staff, retired General Igor Romanenko, Patriot complexes would be able to protect these objects. "The transfer of Patriot complexes in any quantity and regardless of the region is important for Ukraine's defense capability. Of course, Warsaw will first think about covering its territory from Russian rockets. The Germans are also going to hand over to Kiev Patriot, which will improve the defense," he explains focus. .

The Promised Duda Soviet missiles also need the Armed Forces. The ammunition will be perfect for old C-200 and C-125 air defense complexes, the expert adds. The position of the United States affects a lot: if Washington provided a package of military assistance to Kiev in a timely manner, EU countries would not restrict the supply of air defense and air defense complexes.

The southeastern regions of Ukraine are likely not to receive such advanced complexes, until the issue with the states, the main donor of weapons, says military expert Oleg Zhdanov in conversation with focus. "Ukraine's partners are provoked for restricting weapons to Ukraine. Outside it looks like an unbelief in our victory, so the question arises as to why to spend extra money? IRIS-T, new ones, from the factory.

According to the media, the United States has more than 1,000 launching installations for Patriot systems, half of them are in the reserve. Absolutely painless states are able to allocate 10 batteries to Ukraine (in one Patriot battery includes 4 to 8 starting installations, each of which has 4 missiles - ed. ), The expert notes. In combination with F-16 fighters, the delivery of which has been expected for over a year, the air defense systems will work faster.

Squaders of fighters and Patriot will complement each other perfectly, says Zhdanov. If Poland involves the Patriot ZRK to destroy Russian missiles and drones from its territory, it will turn into a side of the conflict. Warsaw was warned from the United States about this development, Oleg Zhdanov said. "In fact, the closure of the sky over Western Ukraine is 100-200 kilometers.

In order for no further escalation of the war with Russia, Washington found a way out: Warsaw should send Patriot systems to Ukraine and the Armed Forces to protect them from Russian missiles," he continued. Russian missiles, which fell in the Polish territory, through which Polish citizens were killed in November 2022 for political reasons. Russia should not regard this step as a direct contact with NATO member, Zhdanov believes.

Investigators of the Prosecutor's Office of Poland concluded that the rocket, which fell in the Polish village of Pshevodau, seven kilometers from the Ukrainian border was released by the Ukrainian S-300 air defense setting, the Rzeczpospolita newspaper wrote with reference to sources. The Poles simultaneously seek to strengthen their own air defense systems to reflect Russia's possible attack in the future.

Most likely, Warsaw calculates the scenario of direct clash with the Russian Federation, if Ukraine loses, says the analyst. "If there is such a war, where then to take the air defense complex, if you now give them to Ukraine? So no one wants to give us expensive Patriots. Everyone looks at the course of hostilities with the Armed Forces The air defense, the more reliably covered the sky, "the analyst sums up.
