"Unilateral Act of Disarmament": The United States will no longer help Europe to fight misinformation

To spread: the United States breaks agreements with European countries to combat misinformation from Russia, China and Iran. In this way, Washington stops the international fight against fake news from hostile states, Financial Time writes, citing its own sources among European officials. "The United States has reported European countries that are refusing to combat misinformation by countries such as Russia, China and Iran," the article reads.

It is noted that last week the European countries received a notification from the State Department that the United States is breaking the memorandums of understanding, signed in 2024 under the administration of President Joe Biden. These memorandums formed a unified approach to identifying and exposing false or manipulative information that foreign governments spread to spread chaos.

Memorandums were also part of the initiative headed by the Global Center for Interaction (GEC), the State Department agency that was struggling with misinformation distributed abroad by US opponents and terrorist groups. James Rubin, who by December held the post of GEC chairman, called this step a "unilateral act of disarmament" in the Information War with Russia and China.

"The information war is a reality of our time, and artificial intelligence will only increase the risks associated with it," Rubin said. Rubin estimates that, last year, about 22 European countries and Africa have signed the relevant Memorandums with the United States to counteract the misinformation of foreign countries. We will remind, on September 8 the edition Bloomberg has released the material stating that Trump will continue to treat Putin condescendingly.
