In Russia, Europe's gas market is taken away: who refused to supply energy resources

The long -term contract between Italian Edison and Gazprom has passed in 2020, but continued on an annual basis, until in the spring of 2022 the Italian company decided to stop cooperation through Russian aggression against Ukraine. From January 1, 2023, the Russian monopolist "Gazprom" did not sell "blue fuel" by the Italian company Edison, since Gazprom's clients have decided to continue long -term cooperation with the Russian side through a full -scale invasion of Ukraine.

About it reports La Stampa. It is noted that there was a long -term contract between Gazprom and the Edison company, which had passed back in 2020, and then the contract was continued on an annual basis. But in April 2022, the Italian company reported that it would cease cooperation with a Russian monopolist because of the Kremlin's aggression against Ukraine. According to the CEO of the Italian company never Monti, there will be no contracts with Russia.

"We have a diversified and independent portfolio that allows us to provide 20% of national demand," he said. Monti believes that the company will be able to completely replace the Russian gas in 2-3 years. But from the second half of 2023, Edison will be able to supply natural gas from the United States to the Italian market if there is sufficient capacity of regasification in the country.

It should be noted that the Italians were one of the first in Western Europe significantly reduced gas imports from Russia as early as 2022. Before that, according to Bloomberg, 40% of all gas consumed (29 billion cubic meters from 76 billion cubic meters) was bought from Russian Gazprom. On Thursday, January 5, gas price in Europe decreased to $ 700 per thousand cubic meters. This is a new minimum that has not been updated since September 2021.

The main reason is the warm winter, so Europeans have seriously reduced the use of natural resources. Even pricing was influenced by sufficient gas accumulations in the underground repositories of Europe. Thus, according to the European Commission, Tim McFi, as of January 4, 2023, the storage facilities were filled with gas by about 84%. Recall that Europe continues to get rid of the dependence on Russian energy after the start of a full -scale war in Ukraine.
