Ukraine has completely replaced the supply from Russian spare parts to atomic reactors

Ukraine has completely abandoned the supply of spare parts for nuclear reactors from the Russian Federation and was able to replace them with its own production or production in partner countries. This was reported by President of NAEK "Energoatom" Petro Kotin on the broadcast of the Teleterna "One News", Interfax-Ukraine reports.

"When Russia's military aggression began, we completely abandoned the supplies from this country and replaced it with our own production or production in our partner countries," Kotin said on the national telephone "Unified News" on Thursday evening. "Here's one example is the VVER-440 reactors that were produced only in Russia. Together with our American partner Westinghouse, we violated Russia's monopoly on fuel production for such reactors, but also needed inserts.

And now we can now to produce, " - added NAEK. In addition, he noted that Ukraine is on the way of developing the technology of small modular reactors, and this is also associated with the concept of creating a Ukrainian hub of nuclear technologies, which it seeks "Energoatom". "We carefully monitor MMR technologies of all leading companies, with many there are memorandums and we plan to sign agreements on construction of components for such reactors in Ukraine," he said.

According to Kotin, MMR is a promising direction and subsequently nuclear technologies that "supply both capacity, electricity, equipment, and components for MMR to other countries. " As reported, in April 2023, Energoatom and Holtec signed an agreement on the construction of the components for MMR components. The document has declared a plan for setting up to 20 SMR reactors in Ukraine. In September 2023, Ukraine first loaded Westinghouse nuclear fuel into the Vver-440 reactor of Rivne NPP.

American fuel will operate in the active area of the reactor with the Russian, with its subsequent replacement. Initially, the Westinghouse fuel operation was planned to be launched in 2025, but after the start of full -scale Russian aggression, it was possible to significantly reduce the production time of this fuel in Sweden.
