"Unfulfilled Mission": The EU will not be able to give up gas with the Russian Federation in the near future - the European Commission

The Deputy Chairman of the European Commission, Marosh Shefchovich, reported that with the continuation of gas infrastructure and new partnerships, EU countries will be able to further reduce the volume of Russian gas imports in the coming months. Currently, the complete cessation of Russian gas supplies is practically not possible for EU countries. This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the European Commission Marosh Shefchovich, reports Handelsblatt.

According to him, in 2022, Russian gas imports to EU countries decreased from 150 billion cubic meters to less than 80 billion cubic meters. According to forecasts, this year is expected that the volume of imports of Russian gas will be only 40 billion cubic meters, including liquefied natural gas. "We have significantly reduced the import indicators of Russian gas. But I would say that it is still an impossible mission to completely abandon Russian gas," he added.

Shefchovich also stressed that with the continuation of gas infrastructure and new partnerships, EU countries will be able to reduce the volume of Russian gas imports in the coming months. "In the case of gas imported through the overall purchasing platform of the EU, we already make sure that it does not come from Russia," Shefchovich said.
