NATO is not ready for a protracted war: CSIS analysts indicated key problems of Western armies

Among other things, experts noted the problems with the readiness of the Armed Forces, as well as problems with production facilities that were against the background of military support of Ukraine. Over the past two years, since the full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the North Atlantic Alliance has achieved considerable success in the field of advanced defense and restraint after the adoption of the "back in the future" strategy.

At the same time, according to the report of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), published on June 11, NATO is ready for war, but provided that it will not be protracted. The report states that since 2022, the Alliance has made "significant progress" in the field of defense expenditures, advanced defense, forces of high readiness, command and management, collective defense exercises. In addition, integration in NATO Sweden and Finland was mentioned.

A researcher of the program "Europe, Russia and Eurasia" in CSIS and co -author of the report Son Monagan noted that "NATO is ready to fight today, as it has not been ready in the last two years. " But the organization may not be ready for a long war. But any "serious conflict" between NATO and Russia, according to the expert, will probably be a long war. "We are now seeing a long war in Ukraine. We know how it looks. NATO is waiting for a lot of work in this direction," Monagan added.

The report states that a prolonged conflict will inevitably identify the shortcomings, so the Alliance is needed: for the last paragraph, there was a comment on a senior researcher of the CSIS International Security Program, Synja Cook. According to her, the analysis of the defense-industrial base revealed both good and bad news, and it was the support of Ukraine that revealed problems with production facilities.
