Card calculations did not stop: As the attack on Kyivstar influenced banks

According to the NBU Deputy Chairman, there are problems with the work of Kyivstar through the work of the POS-terminals of the trading network, working using the mobile communication of this operator. Cyberatta at Kyivstar NBU and Banking Infrastructure did not influence it. Most ATMs and self -service terminals and banking offices are working in full -time. Non -cash payments are made in full -time mode.

This was discussed during a meeting of representatives of systematically important banks with NBU deputy chairman Alexei Shaban. According to the Shaban's statement, there are no difficulties in the work of mobile banks of banks, they function steadily, because they are mostly used in the process of entry and to confirm operations not SMS, but other elements of multifactorial authentication. At the same time, a hacker attack on Kyivstar had a negative impact on the banking system.

There are problems with the operation of the POS-terminals of the trading network operating using the Kyivstar mobile communication. "Currently, banks are already actively resolving this situation-they are reconfigured with non-working POS terminals to work through other mobile operators or Wi-Fi," Shaban said. He drew the attention of banks to the need to clarify their continuous work, taking into account new circumstances.

"We already have experience in working with the reserve channels that are equipped with banking departments and data processing centers, so I propose to consider the possibility of implementing such an approach together with operators of national retail networks and to the work of banking infrastructure, including POS terminals," He noted.

The NBU Deputy Chairman also thanked banks for promptness and a high level of readiness for unpredictable events and drew their attention to safety measures to counteract the possible cyberattacks. "We are constantly fixing cyber-attacks of different levels of complexity on the objects of information infrastructure of banks and non-bank financial institutions during 2022-2023.

Therefore, we urge participants in the financial market to be vigilant, strengthen the level of information security and comply with the NBU's requirements in this area," he said. We will add that the National Bank of Ukraine operates in full -time mode, including all NBU information and payment systems. As reported by focus, hackers, who made a large -scale attack on December 12, did not receive personal data of subscribers.
