The President of Ukraine met with members of the International Working Group on the Environmental Consequences of War

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with members of the International Working Group on the Environmental Consequences of the War: Former Vice Prime Minister and former Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Walstrom, Vice President of the European Parliament, Gaidi Gaidala, President of Ireland in 1990-1997 Robinson and Greek Tunberg eco -activist.

The meeting was also attended by: Presidential Office Head Andriy Ermak, Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin, Deputy Head of the Office of the Head of State Rostislav Shurma, adviser to the head of the Presidential Office Dariya Zarivna. “Thank you for being here now. This is an extremely important signal of Ukraine's support. We really need your professional help, ”the head of state said.

The President expressed gratitude to the representatives of the world eco -community for the active dialogue during a videoconference, which took place on June 8 within his trip to Kryvyi Rih. Volodymyr Zelensky noted that the International Working Group should work out a wide range of issues related to the influence of Russian aggression on the ecological system of Ukraine.

The head of state attracted the attention of the interlocutors to the catastrophic consequences of the blasting of the Dams of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, which the residents of Kherson region collided. This Russian crime also caused significant damage to the agricultural sphere and biodiversity of the region.

The President noted that many people in the Russian troops occupied by Russian troops were killed as a result of the catastrophe, where the Russians did not evacuate from flooded territories at all. “It is important to offer a set of specific measures how to help Ukrainians from temporarily occupied settlements. These are our people who need to receive the necessary support at such a difficult moment, ”Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.

The Head of State noted the importance of initiatives of representatives of the International Working Group on Russia's environmental crimes and emphasized that the aggressor should be fairly responsible for ecocid crime in our country. For her part, the co -chairman of the International Working Group Margot Walstrom emphasized the solidarity and assistance of Ukraine during the difficult time of the war.

According to her, it is important to provide the world's wide support for the main activities of the international working group. In particular, it is a assessment of damage caused to the environment as a result of Russian aggression, holding Russia accountable for environmental crimes and compensation for losses, as well as the development of environmental plans in Ukraine and the transition to a "green" economy.

Greta Tunberg's eco -activist thanked for the invitation and stressed that it would involve representatives of environmental public organizations in dialogue regarding the main tasks of the international working group and drawing attention to the environmental consequences of the war. In 1990-1997, Mary Robinson, President of Ireland, noted great efforts that Ukraine was making to overcome environmental problems during the war.
