The investigation is based on the analysis of data on the crossing of the borders of Ukraine, Belarus and Russia. As the direct airline between Ukraine and the Russian Federation was stopped in 2014, Tatarov, according to journalists, traveled to Moscow through Minsk.

The investigation also stated that in June 2015, Tatarov visited the occupied Crimea, crossing the checkpoints "Dzhankoy" and "Armenian". The journalists sent a request to the President's office asking to explain the purpose of Tatrov's trips to Moscow. However, they did not receive answers at the time of the publication.
