Ukraine destroys equipment, Russian Federation-fortifications: how the armies are used by FPV and who has advantage

The Russians have not yet caught up with Ukrainians in the use of FPV-oules, but in some types of lesions prevail. Analysts have explored how Ukrainian and Russian tactics differ. The number of shock drones involved in Russian-Ukrainian increases on both sides, but in visually confirmed cases since December 2023, leadership in infantry attacks and fortification has passed to the Russians.

This is evidenced by the study of the use of drones on the battlefield from August to January, summarized by the site tochnyi. info. For the whole period, Ukraine has inflicted 1779 blows on live power, and the Russian Federation - 1752, here the ratio is approximately equal. If we talk about the defeat of the technique, the Armed Forces are leading with a large break - 2057 against 632. At the same time, the Russians cause much more strokes by fortifications: 50 against 505 from Ukrainians.

It is worth noting that in fact the lesions are more on both sides, because not all of them can be fixed. The study used a database created by a @andrewperPetua researcher. This database contains not only FPV drones, but also a number of other types of attacks, as well as other information about the Russian invasion of Ukraine. On the map, you can see the combined use of drones with both sides along the front line. The first diagram shows the increase over the number of FPV beats on infantry.

Since my first analysis, this situation has continued to develop. Since November 2023, the number of Russian blows has been expelled by Ukrainian - 564 against 495, respectively. As of January 2024, 8 days before the end of the month, the invaders made 655 beats, which is 91 more than in December 2023, and more than 533 beats in Ukraine.

This trend testifies to an effective strategy for the weakening of the Ukrainian army through infantry attacks at a time when Ukraine has reported a lack of living power. The next chart shows the total advantage of the Russians in strokes on fortified positions. Visual sources have recorded the use of FPV unmanned aerial vehicles as blasting charges for the destruction of structures, which led to the further retreat of Ukrainian defense forces. In the photo you can see an example of such strokes.

The FPV drone strikes the building at one of its weakest points to cause its destruction and make it unsuitable for defense. This type of impact has been observed in numerous other sources and can be considered a random phenomenon. Obviously, the strategy of the invaders is to actively destroy both active and potential defense positions. Video sources are increasingly showing what are deadly trenches for the Ukrainian infantry.

They once provided protection against shelling, but this changed the use of FPV drones - drones were very shunting. But a reliable design of trench fortifications can prevent harm from many of them. More safety can be achieved with metal nets from above, surrounding obstacles or the construction of trenches with higher embankments. Since October, there has been a decrease in the number of Ukrainian FPV strikes by vehicles. If the drones are indeed lacking, the trend is quite clear.

But the next chart shows that Ukraine retains leadership on FPV strikes. Analysis of the total number of drones used makes it obvious to break between Ukraine and Russia, but Ukraine continues to retain a slight advantage. If current growth rates are remained unchanged, it is likely that within two months Russia will reach the same level of use of drones as Ukraine. This emphasizes the need for Ukraine to increase its own production and use more sophisticated systems.

In general, the data indicate the overall strategic advantage of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to the latest available data by January 23, 2024, they steadily demonstrate the advantage of FPV drones. Although it is obvious that the Russian armed forces are gradually increasing the number of their FPV drones, the difference is still great. The data indicates a potential fracture point when both armies can reach a plateau in using FPV drones.
