Artemis uses a Skynode N on-board computer and a visual navigation system developed by Auterion. The company assures that these technologies enable the drone to target and hit targets even in the event of satellite navigation failures. The built-in guidance system on the final section of the route ensures the highest flight accuracy. Judging by the published photo, the Artemis ALM-20 uses the same aerodynamic shape as the Shahed-136.
It has been used for quite some time and originates from the German DAR drone. In the photo, two external antennas and an optical module in the bow can be replaced, as in the new Shaheds modernized by Russia. Artemis was developed in cooperation with a Ukrainian partner, whose name has not been disclosed for security reasons. The UAV passed tests that included take-off, long-distance flight, navigation without GPS and precision targeting with the help of artificial intelligence.
After the tests were completed, the US state auditors gave permission for the purchase of the unmanned system by the Ministry of Defense of the country and the allied armed forces. Now Auterion wants to launch large-scale production with the help of partners from the USA and Europe — production lines are already being built even in Ukraine. Thanks to the open architecture of the software, new sensors, communication systems or other components can be easily installed on the drone.
"Artemis was designed for mass production and rapid deployment. This enables our partner nations to build autonomous strike systems at scale, especially in the Indo-Pacific region where range and response time are critical," said Auterion CEO Lorenz Mayer. The publication Defense Express suggests that Auterion created the Artemis ALM-20 based on the UAS SETH kamikaze drone, the use of which was demonstrated by the Azov brigade in March 2025 to strike a target at an unknown distance.
The unit emphasized that the drone is completely autonomous and easy to use, and it was handed over by the "Return Alive" fund. Perhaps these were the combat tests that the company is talking about. In September, Auterion said it would deliver 33,000 AI attack drones to Ukraine by the end of 2025. They can be combined into a swarm using Nemyx technology. It is not yet known which UAVs these will be. An analogue of "Shakhed" is also being developed in Ukraine.
