Canada will buy NASAMS air defense system (photo)

Anita Ananda, the head of the Ministry of Defense of Canada, approved this decision after a telephone conversation with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Alexei Reznikov. Canada will acquire the NASAMS air defense complex in the United States and pass it on to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was reported by Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand on her official Twitter page.

Such a decision was made at the Canada's profile ministry after Anita Anand Chairman Anand was spoken on Tuesday, January 10, with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov. "I spoke with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine this morning and heard it directly: the air defense systems are the main priority of Ukraine," Anand wrote. According to her, which is why Canada will acquire a PPO complex in the United States and hand over it to the Ukrainian military.

"In the face of cruel air strikes in Russia in Ukraine, this air defense system will help to protect Ukrainian settlements and objects of critical infrastructure from drones, missiles and aircraft," Anita Anand said. Canada's Defense Minister also said that the purchase of NASAMS in the United States is the first free giving Canada of Ukraine's air defense system.

The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov noted on the page in Twitter that the conversation with his colleague from Canada was very productive. "They discussed very good news from Canada, which will greatly enhance our defense capability," Reznikov wrote. He also thanked the official Ottawa for comprehensive support of Ukraine.

It is a mobile Norwegian anti -aircraft missile complex, designed to combat shunting aerodynamic goals at small and medium heights, NASAMS can destroy UAVs, ballistic missiles, helicopters, planes, winged missiles and other goals. It belongs to aircraft of small-medium radius of action. It should be noted that Ukraine already has two NASAMS SAM complexes, which in October 2022 were transferred to the United States within the framework of international military assistance.

Recall that in early November 2022, NASAMS and ASPIDE complexes arrived in Ukraine. Then the head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine thanked with the help of Norway, Spain and the USA and added that Western weapons would strengthen Ukrainian air defense.
