The Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Liaien called this project "the basis of reliable defense", and European Commissar Andrew Kubilus plans to consult with defense ministers for its expansion, Euronews writes. The Eirshield system was developed by Estonian Defsecintel and the Latvian Origin Robotics. It is an automated platform that detects, classifies and destroys enemy drones with radars, cameras, radio frequency detectors and artificial intelligence.
The algorithms independently determine the level of threat and decide how to neutralize the target: to suppress the signal with the help of HR or knock it down with another drone-interceptor. The whole process, from detection to destruction, occurs without human involvement.
EIRSHELD is designed to intercept speeding purposes flying at a speed of up to 200 km/h, and is already successfully used in Ukraine, where it is equipped with an additional system for the defeat of Shahaned drones, which fly low. According to the creators, technology is ready for deployment, but requires adaptation to NATO standards for peacetime.
If in the conditions of war, any flying object is considered hostile, then in the non-military time the system should be able to distinguish the dangerous drone from civilian. To do this, it can be equipped with drones with nets or interceptors that will knock the target without causing detonation. Despite the importance of the project, last month the European Commission rejected the request for its financing of € 12 million.
However, the participating countries decided to allocate funds from their national budgets. Yes, Estonia has already allocated € 12 million, and Latvia - € 10 million. In the coming weeks, there will be a system demonstration for other European governments, which can accelerate its implementation throughout the EU Eastern border. Earlier, Focus wrote what the goals of the underwater drone "Toloka" in the Crimea and ports of the Russian Federation.
