The Russian Federation has released more than 11,000 missiles in Ukraine: what is the effectiveness of Ukrainian air defense - CSIS

Due to the supply of Western air defense systems, as well as Ukrainian developments, the defense forces totally intercepted 79. 8% of Russian missiles. From September 28, 2022 to September 1, 2024, Russia released 11 466 missiles across Ukraine. According to a study by the CSIS analytical center, the median number of launchers per day was 17 and the daily average daily.

At the same time, 36 unique combinations with a combination of different types of rockets that were flying according to different trajectories were used to implement such blows. This is stated in the article of the American Analytical Institute of CSIS of October 23. The authors of the study point out that in order to deplete Ukraine's air defense, the Russians used 36 unique combinations of rocket launchers.

Different types of rockets were used for this purpose, launched by various trajectories and from different geographical locations. In total, CSIS researchers found 52 total models used by the aggressor, of which 36 were unique. It is noted that during the study period there were 17 days, when the number of launches of rockets exceeded 82 per day. This coincided with important military operations and critical events at the front, which indicates the peaks of the intensity of conflict.

The effectiveness of Ukraine's air defense was also analyzed in the study. The daily interception rate is 83. 5%and the median level is 88%. However, if you summarize all the data in two years, the total level of missile interception is 79. 8%. According to Defense Express observers, these indicators have been achieved through the supply of Western air defense systems, as well as Ukrainian developments, including the acoustic network to detect Shahd Iranian drones.

Against the backdrop of such rocket attacks, CSIS analytics conclude that the West should continue to support Ukraine, strengthening its air defense and providing opportunities to strike deep into the territory of Russia. These measures will help to increase Ukraine's resilience in the face of rocket threats and improve its ability to defend against massive attacks.
