Still not enough: against the background of war in Ukraine is increasing production of weapons - WSJ

According to journalists, despite all efforts, Europe is still waiting for a long and difficult way to independence from US military support. This is especially true against the background of Russia's aggressive policy. Europe has increased military expenses. Weapons manufacturers work around the clock, and new factories continue to open. About it writes Wall Street Journal.

According to journalists, despite all efforts, Europe is still waiting for a long and difficult way to independence from US military support. This is especially true against the background of Russia's aggressive policy. The publication writes that in 2024, for the first time in a decade, European members of NATO will spend 2% of the total gross domestic product on their armed forces together, as stated by the Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

However, according to critics from the United States, even these costs may not be enough to compensate for decades of low investment in the defense sector. Moreover, the purpose of European expenditures can be the subject of debate. Thus, almost two -thirds of money that European governments have promised to spend on military equipment from the beginning of a full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine are directed to American contractors.

The material states that Europeans and some policies in the United States are increasingly saying that Europe's re -equipment is advantageous primarily to US producers. F-35 reactive fighters, Himars missile installations and Patriot missile defense systems are in high demand in European governments. However, such trends have a negative impact on European weapons suppliers. We will remind, US representative at NATO Julian Smith stated that Ukraine will not receive an invitation to NATO this year.
