Hybrid air defense: the Russian Federation covers "holes" in air defense with the help of old systems, - GUR

Share: Russia is trying to build a unified air defense system in order to protect the objects of the military-industrial and fuel-energy complex from Ukrainian long-range strikes, which regularly hit targets on the territory of the aggressor state. As the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Andriy Yusov, said on the air of the telethon, we are talking about both Soviet complexes and modern systems.

According to him, the Russians are trying to "patch the holes in their anti-aircraft defense" by combining outdated Soviet models with equipment they pass off as the newest. "We are talking about both Soviet complexes and modern ones - the enemy is trying to combine them into one system. These are both the outdated S-300 and the newer S-400, as well as the so-called newest S-350 "Vityaz" system," explained Andriy Yusov.

The representative of the GUR noted that Russia is actually creating a hybrid air defense system, where old and relatively new air defense systems are combined into a single architecture. At the same time, the heterogeneity of the systems makes it difficult their joint work and makes the network vulnerable to modern means of electronic warfare and drone attacks. Air defense systems are deployed in all major Russian cities, as well as around industrial and energy facilities.

However, despite all these measures, Ukraine continues to carry out sensitive strikes on strategically important enemy facilities. "The key indicator is how many Ukrainian drones reach targets and cause damage. According to various estimates, the reduction in the processing of oil products in the Russian Federation is from 18% to 20% - these are extremely large numbers," Yusov emphasized.

Development of the S-350 complex began in the USSR in the 1980s, but the project was then frozen and revived only at the beginning of the "zeroes". Today, the S-350 is positioned as an intermediate echelon of air defense - more modern and flexible than the old S-300 At the same time, in terms of its tasks, the air defense system is closer to the systems that provide cover from aircraft, UAVs, and ballistic missiles at distances from 60 to 120 km.
