Almost like the "Palyanytsia" missile: the new Russian anti-aircraft missile system is similar to the Ukrainian development, says an analyst (video)

Share: The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are testing a modification of the new type of UMPB-5R hovering aerial bombs, the flight range of which can exceed 100 km. To some extent, the Russian version of the KAB with a jet engine resembles the Ukrainian development "Palyanytsia". Pavlo Lakiychuk, head of security programs at the "Strategy XXI" Center, talked about some features of the new Russian development on Channel 24.

According to him, the sample discovered near Poltava did not explode: after disassembly, it turned out that it was not a typical KAB, but an improved design with a turbojet engine. Russian specialists designate such products as "KAB-R". To increase the range, a solution with a solid-fuel accelerator is also used - an attached pipe from the "Grad" salvo rocket system, which gives an additional 30-40 km of starting speed.

Lakiychuk noted the similarity of this concept with the Ukrainian development "Palyanytsia" — a drone-missile with a turbojet engine — but emphasized that the Russian KAB-R has its own technical features. Despite the increase in the working radius, these munitions have less destructive power compared to conventional three-ton aerial bombs. In addition, as the range increases, the accuracy decreases, the greater the distance, the greater the error and the scattering circle, the expert noted.

If we compare KAB-R with earlier versions of adjusted aviation ammunition, then the new development has a more advanced design. But this is also a problem, since it will not work to produce them in the same quantity as the Russians produce the same bombs from UMPK.

However, in general, the danger of new air defense systems cannot be underestimated - this development poses a considerable threat to the Ukrainian rear, Lakiychuk believes, especially if the Russians manage to scale up their production and deliver massive strikes. "You can see a summary from separate areas of the front, for example, in the Pokrovsky direction - how many strikes by these anti-aircraft missiles took place in a day. These are dozens on a separate section of the front.

If we transfer the scale of strikes on the front line to long-range strikes, then we understand that this could be a disaster," the analyst emphasized. We will remind you that the first visual confirmations of a new version of the Russian planing air bombs appeared on the network, which is designated in a number of sources as UMPK-PD or UMPB-5R.
