"The Russian Federation will pay for crimes": the UN General Assembly voted for the payment of reparations of Ukraine

The adopted document recommends 193 states to conduct an international register with information about the damage caused by the Russian Federation through the invasion. The General Assembly of the United Nations approved a resolution, according to which Russia was appointed payments of reparations for invasion of the territory of Ukraine. 94 out of 181 countries voted in favor of the decision.

It should be noted that the document approved by the General Assembly does not legally oblige, unlike the resolutions of the UN Security Council. Of the 181 vote participants, 94 voted for the resolution, including Australia, Canada, France, Turkey, the USA and others. 14 states, including Belarus, Iran, Cuba, DPRK, China, Russia, voted against the resolution. 73 countries abstained, including Brazil, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan.

The adopted document recommends 193 states to conduct an international register with information about the damage caused by the Russian Federation through the invasion: to document evidence and information about the damage, loss or injury caused by war to people and the state. The resolution was called "Provision of Legal Protection and reparations in connection with aggression against Ukraine".

It was prepared by Ukraine for co -authorship of about half a hundred countries, including countries in Europe, Australia, USA, New Zealand, Micronesia. The adviser to the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak responded to the news about the successful vote for the resolution. He stated that Russia would answer its crimes. "For all its crimes, Russia will pay in all senses, including reparations. From now on it is the will of the UN. Everything will be Ukraine," Yermak wrote.

The Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Vasily Neenzi called the resolution "legally void document". "At the same time, co -authors cannot help but be aware that the adoption of such a resolution will have the consequences that can return to themselves with boomerang," he said. We will remind, on October 14 Ukraine presented in the UN General Assembly a project of resolution on reparations of Russia through war in Ukraine.

The post of Ukraine at the UN Sergey Kislytsa said that the Russian Federation has destroyed about half of power grids and engineering communications in Ukraine. As a result, millions of Ukrainians were left without electricity, water and heating before winter. On October 26, the European Parliament presented a mechanism for paying reparations for Ukraine from Russia. In particular, it provides for the procedure of confiscation of assets of the Russian Federation and their transfer to the Fund.
