Long US Air Force: Lockheed Martin introduced a new winged AGM-158 XR rocket (photo)

The AGM-158 XR Raise is the evolution of the Jassm family, focused on far from minimal cost. The radius of the lesion can be compared to the known "tomatoes" and reaches 1600 km. Lockheed Martin at Air, Space & Cyber 2024 on September 16 demonstrated a new version of the Joint Air-To-Surface Standoff Missile (Jassm)-Jassm-XR (AGM-158 XR) air-based rocket (Jassm) winged air base (Jassm) winged.

Like the recently presented MAKO hypersonic rocket, Jassm-XR is designed to allow the US Air Force to perform long-distance tasks, reducing the time and cost of development. Army recognition observers were told in more detail about the novelty. The new variant is designed on the basis of Jassm-E and Lrasm platforms, offering a unique configuration with elongated fuselage. This solution allows the rocket to carry more fuel and ammunition, which significantly increases its range.

The AGM-158 family includes several versions, each with unique characteristics. AGM-158B JASSM-ER, for example, has an increased range, and AGM-158D JASSM-ER is the possibility of renewal in real time. Flight range: AGM-158 XR provides a range of 1600 km, which is three times higher than the previous versions of Jassm. This can be compared to Tomahawk's winged rocket. Such indicators greatly expand the prompt opportunities for high distances, especially in high -risk areas (A2/AD).

Construction and inconsistency: AGM-158 XR retains the unopentable trapezoidal body shape of the JASSM family. It also has increased dimensions, which allows to place additional fuel and heavier warhead weighing about 454 kg. Thus, the modification makes it possible to increase the radius and power of the impact. Modularity and flexibility: AGM-158 XR is developed using a modular approach, which facilitates the integration of new technologies and the adaptation of a rocket for various tasks.

This makes it possible to significantly reduce the time and cost of development, as well as maintain the system updates and modernization in the future. Compatibility: The rocket is compatible with most air platforms, including those that can already carry Jassm, except for the F-16 fighter.

The key advantage of AGM-158 XR is its ability to integrate with the LRASM anti-ship system, which greatly expands its combat capabilities and makes it possible to combine different types of missiles to perform complex tasks. Lockheed Martin also considers the possibility of deploying this rocket from a cargo aircraft under the Rapid Dragon program, which will allow you to launch rockets at long distances.

Cover to reduce the visibility: no less important change was the color of the AGM-158 missiles into semi-glossy black, which reduces their visual signature and increases the chances of successful penetration into highly protected areas. AGM-158 XR has common features with a MAKO hypersonic missile, also developed by Lockheed Martin. Mako is designed to strike fast distances, developing a speed of more than 5 strokes.

However, the main difference is the accents: AGM-158 XR is intended for high distances with a focus on cost-effectiveness and flexibility in modern hostilities, while MAKO is focused on the speed of tasks and overcoming air defense. Thus, the modification of AGM-158 XR is the evolution of the Jassm family, focused on far-looking blows with minimal cost and high levels of safety for pilots.
