Promised to return the Armed Forces warrior from captivity for money: the SBU detained a fraudstere in Kharkiv (photo)

According to the investigation, the man pretended to be an employee of the SBU, convincing the woman that her husband is likely to be captured by Russian occupiers, and demanded money for his release. Military counterintelligence of the Security Service, together with the National Police, eliminated another fraudulent scheme of money for the families of Ukrainian defenders. This was reported in the SBU press center.

As part of the complex actions carried out in Kharkiv, a local resident was discovered, who forged information about receiving $ 10,000 from the wife of a dead military serviceman of the Armed Forces. The person used a trick, appearing as if the military had died in the gray zone, and that his body was not yet given to his relatives. Upon learning of this, the fraudster began to pretend to be a SBU employee and to convince the woman that her husband was allegedly captured by Russian invaders.

During the monetary reward, the person involved promised her assistance in returning the military. In order to resolve this issue, the attacker "guaranteed" his victim that he would contribute to the name of the allegedly captured warrior to the list for "priority" exchange. SBU staff documented the criminal acts of the person and detained him while receiving money from the victim. During the search, a mobile phone was removed from a hot phone.

Currently, the attacker has been informed of suspicion under Part 4 of Art. 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (fraud). It is planned to choose a precautionary measure - detention. An investigation into the establishment of all the circumstances of the crime is ongoing. The attacker faces up to 8 years in prison.
