Dilemma of values ​​in the war

And every time it was the need to confiscate Russian funds in the US, Canada, the EU or the United Kingdom, we heard: it is unnaturally, private property is sacred and part of the democratic values ​​we live with. Video of the day is an important argument, with him and his perception should be done.

But he raises the question: are all democratic values ​​the same? According to a survey conducted by Pew Research Center, in developed democratic countries, on average, more than 67% of people in 34 countries put a fair judicial system, gender equality, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press and freedom on the Internet in the first place. That is, freedom remains key. But during a full -scale war, all this is at risk.

We can lose freedom of speech, freedom of religion, personal freedom, independence, the right of choice and property right. And this is not just about Ukraine. In fact, we are forced to put democratic countries in front of Trolly Dilemma.

Freedom of democracy is more important than the private ownership of the aggressor another research Pew Research Center conducted in which time is shown that citizens feel dissatisfied with how their democracy work: it is related to many factors, including economic indicators, government competence and generality political and economic system. 56% of those surveyed in 17 developed economies believe that their political system needs serious changes.

The Kremlin plays discontent, sponsoring populists or heating social sentiment. Recent rallies in the Czech Republic are an example. People went outside against high energy prices, vaccination, migrants, and among these requirements, there were somehow the abolition or reduction of assistance to Ukraine.

In addition, Russia uses democratic principles against their carriers: there is freedom of speech and the enemy uses it to saturate its propaganda of all spheres of our and Western society; There is freedom of movement and the enemy promotes the narrative on the ban on traveling abroad to men; There is ownership and the Kremlin speculates that its money should remain intact, as is the money of any of the democratic countries.

And the tyrant does not have a dilemma of values ​​- it will easily let the trolley in a circle and kill everyone. There are two ways to solve Trolly Dilemma: inaction when a person does not choose who to save (and therefore is not responsible for the consequences) and utilitarian, choosing fewer victims. Now Ukraine is fighting for the fundamental - freedom. The freedom that then allows both free elections, free movement and ownership.

Without the former there will be no other: if we now play the most important battle for freedom, everything else will disappear on its own. Therefore, Ukraine now demands that partners make a utilitarian decision that is dictated by the exclusive situation - to yield to the right of private property and its inviolability to save value much greater and more important for all - freedom. Ukraine now wins not only its independence, but also protects the civilized world.

We pay for this our lives, we need tools for this struggle and Russian assets would become a useful resource. Accordingly, the trolley will have to be put on private property, saving freedom of speech, freedom of choice, freedom of movement, freedom of the press, etc. For the sake of freedom and independence, we should be able to confiscate assets of the Russian Federation. It is a complex path, but quite real: a drop sharpens a stone not by force, but by the frequency of falling at one point.

This is what we are working on now. And there are already results. Canada has approved changes to its legislation, which allows the transfer of confiscated Russian assets in favor of Ukraine. This is a precedent and an example for other countries we use to persuade partners to start making similar decisions. We are aware of how painful, unpleasant and difficult for the West, but they should be.
