Engineers have presented a new design of a heavy launch vehicle "Changzhen-9", which is being developed by the Chinese Research Institute of Missile Engineering, within the framework of the 15th Chinese International Aviation and Space Technology exhibition in Zhuhai. According to the presentation, this large two-stage rocket carrier is designed to deliver astronauts per month, as well as for other tasks.
The new rocket will have three versions. In one version, this heavy space rocket will be multiple, as well as Starship. But this is the similarity with the SpaceX megaret. On the upper stage of "Changozhen-9" there are flaps that improve maneuverability, where on the upper stage of Starship. The lower degree of Chinese rocket will also have 30 engines that operate on liquid oxygen and liquid methane.
The first degree of Starship megaroade, also known as Super Heavy, has 33 engines that operate on the same fuel. It became known that Changchezhen-9 rocket will have a height of 114 meters and be able to bring 150 tons of amounts to a low Earth orbit. At the same time, the most powerful and largest spaceship rocket in the world has a height of 122 meters and can bring the same cargo in orbit. But the Chinese rocket and Starship have one big difference.
If SpaceX has already launched 5 test launches of its rocket and the sixth will take place in the near future in November, then "Changozhen-9" will first fly into space no earlier than in 2033. According to SpaceX, a fully working version of Starship should be ready for launch into space next year. By September 2025, one of the versions of this rocket should fly to the moon without a crew and land there and then go back.
The fact is that this Starship configuration should be a landing module that will send NASA astronauts from their spacecraft in orbit around the moon to the surface of the Earth's satellite and back in 2026. At the same time, the Chinese rocket can fly into space before, as Changozhen-9 developers have changed their plans for the project of this rocket several times.
A few years ago, Chinese engineers worked on a three-stage, not a two-stage Changozhen-9 missile and planned its first launch in 2030.
