Alternative History: Lavrov stated that Russians led by Catherine II "built" Odessa

To spread: the head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov stated that Russians led by Catherine II were built by Odessa. Thus, the Ukrainian city "becomes Russian". This was reported by Russian media. The Russian diplomat also states that in addition to Odessa, the Russians built all the port and industrial infrastructure of Odesa region. And the current Ukrainian authorities, allegedly, wants to remove all this from "history".

"It is the Russians, Catherine II, Potemkin, and our glorious ancestors have mastered this territory and built Odessa, other cities, ports, factories, factories. And all this is now trying to cross out from the memory of the people," said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. Sergiy Lavrov was ridiculed in social networks because of his statement, as the diplomat demonstrated ignorance of historical facts.

Catherine II actually issued an order to build only the Odessa port, and the city itself existed before. In particular, the fortress of Hadzhibei existed in the city from XIV. Recall that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov noted that it will be "interesting" if the US is used to be used to convince Europe not to give up Russian gas. Russia and the United States are negotiating to restore the work of the Nord Stream gas pipelines.
