"Don't get": US State Department made fun of Putin's intention to recognize Alaska's sale illegal

Presidential Decree Volodymyr Putin on the allocation of funds for the study and registration of Russian property abroad will not have effect on the US territory. The Kremlin head will not be able to recognize the sale of the United States in the nineteenth century by the Russian Empire in the nineteenth century to join it to Russia. This was stated by Vedant Patel, a deputy spokesman for the US State Department.

He reacted at the request of journalists to comment on the media report that Russian President Putin had ordered a "illegal" sale of Alaska. According to him, this idea looks absurd. "I think I can say on behalf of all of us in the US government, saying that it will definitely not receive it," the Patel said.

Last week, Vladimir Putin signed a decree on allocation of funds for the study and registration of Russian ownership abroad, including in the former territories of the Russian Empire and the USSR. In this decree specifically, Alaska was not mentioned, but the document attracted the attention of military bloggers who stated that Putin had used the decree to declare the sale of Russia in 1867.

From 1799 to 1867, the territory of Alaska was under the control of a Russian-American company-a semi-state trade colonial organization of the Russian Empire. Decisions on the implementation of this territory were announced after the Crimean War. In Washington, in March 1867, they decided to strengthen the US Alaska sale agreement. Recall that in August 2023 Russian and Chinese ships approached the territorial waters of Alaska.
