The Kremlin loses its influence in Europe: which country managed to get rid of the "energy needle" of the Russian Federation

According to the Czech Prime Minister, last spring, the country was threatened with energy collapse as it depended on Russia. Many European countries and, in general, the European Union gradually abolish gas supply from Russia. For example, the Czech Republic as of the end of 2023 is no longer dependent on gas imports from the Russian Federation. Prime Minister of the country Petr Fial informed about it in his Twitter.

He noted that at the beginning of 2022, the Czech Republic could face gas deficiency, and the country's energy security was threatened because it depended on Russia. But the Czech authorities have taken some important steps. In particular, it rented part of the LNG terminal in the Netherlands. "And we managed to completely get rid of the dependence of Russian gas," the head of the Czech government emphasized.

He noted that an important event for the country was the opening of the LNG terminal in the Netherlands. "The terminal is capable of covering a large part of our consumption," the Fiali said. Since 2015, Ukraine has relied on its own gas production or buys "blue fuel" in the European market. However, Russian gas in the Ukrainian territory is still present in transit to Europe. Thus, the Ukrainian "Naftogaz" and Russian Gazprom "concluded a five -year transit contract at the end of 2019.

According to "Ukrainian Energy", in 2023 Russia pumps about 15 billion cubic meters of gas in the European Union through Ukraine. Meanwhile, Naftogaz, Alexei Chernyshov, in an interview with Radio Liberty at the end of October 2023, stated that Ukraine would not continue a contract for Russian gas transit to the EU when the current contract would end. It expires in a year - December 30, 2024.

By the way, on December 19 it became known that Bulgaria will cease to export fuel made from Russian oil since 2024. It is planned that importing Russian oil will be stopped in two stages. Export quotas will be stopped from January 1, and from March 1, import and processing of Russian oil will be stopped forever. At the same time, they want to get rid of Russian energy in the European Union. Thus, the plans of EU countries-to reduce Russian gas imports to 40-45 billion cubic meters in 2023.
