The transfer of Tomahawk to Ukraine is on hold: the delivery dates have been postponed due to the actions of the Russian Federation, - People's Deputy (video)

Share: The question of the transfer of Tomahawk cruise missiles from the USA to Ukraine is temporarily suspended. Instead, according to People's Deputy Yehor Chernyaev, negotiations are ongoing on the strengthening of air defense and the development of joint production of weapons between Ukrainian and foreign companies. On the air of the "Edyny Novy" telethon, he said that the decision on Tomahawk is currently on hold.

According to him, at the same time, consultations with other areas of cooperation do not stop: we are talking about increasing the number of air defense systems and missiles for them, as well as about technical and production cooperation within the framework of the "Build with Ukraine" initiative, where it is planned to combine the technologies and capacities of Ukrainian and foreign companies.

Chernev connects the temporary postponement of the decision with the recent telephone contact between the leaders of the USA and the Russian Federation; at first it was expected that the Tomahawk supply issue would be resolved earlier, but the reaction from Moscow changed the time frame.

The People's Deputy noted that the final steps on this issue may depend on the results of the upcoming meeting between the presidents in Budapest, after which the discussion of supplies and a wider range of weapons may be resumed.

According to Chernev, the issue of financing and routes for the transfer of equipment also remain a subject of discussion: it is also about the mechanisms by which European partners can buy weapons and then transfer them to Ukraine, and about participation in financing programs, in particular the mentioned PEARL. He emphasized that defense cooperation should include not only the transfer of ready-made kits, but also the development of joint production sites with the exchange of technologies.

Also during the broadcast, the People's Deputy drew attention to the need to strengthen the country's air defense: the subject of discussion is both the purchase of additional air defense and long-range missiles, as well as the concept of a joint "air defense shield" in western Ukraine with the involvement of allied equipment or systems.

At the same time, he warned that the direct participation of foreign systems in repelling attacks could be interpreted by the Kremlin as escalation, so such decisions would require careful risk assessment. Chernev also emphasized the role of Ukraine in the preparation and delivery of solutions for combating drones: according to him, Ukrainian specialists are ready to transfer experience, train servicemen of other countries and provide access to developments in this field.

As part of the "Build with Ukraine" initiative, he cited examples of interest from the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark in creating joint ventures for the production of weapons and defense technologies. Focus previously wrote that the presence of a large batch of Tomahawk cruise missiles can significantly strengthen Ukraine's strike capabilities and change the balance of forces on the battlefield.
