The EU prepares a 12 package of sanctions against Russia: what restrictions are envisaged

The proposal of the next package of sanctions against Russia can be announced next week. Restrictions will affect both imports and exports. The European Union is about to impose new sanctions against Russia. The new package provides for the introduction of goods trade in total cost of about 5 billion euros. Bloomberg writes about it. According to Radio Svoboda journalist Ricarda Yuzvak, a proposal for the next package may be announced next week.

The sources of the publication note that the new package of sanctions prepare restrictions on export of welding machines, chemicals and other technologies used for military purposes. "The prohibitions of a license for software and restrictions on imports of a small number of metals and aluminum products, construction products, transport goods and diamonds are also considered," the material reads. Sanctions can affect both imports and exports.

However, the ban on diamond imports depend on the decision of the group of the Greater Seven countries to control their movement across borders. It is noted that such a decision will have to be made in the near future. Actually, the 12th Package of Sanctions aims to violate Russia's ability to circumvent already imposed sanctions through third countries. Bloomberg writes that the 12th Package of Sanctions is also aimed at complicating Russia to evade existing sanctions through third countries.

In particular, in this way, Russia receives technologies and components it uses in the war. Among other things, the EU discusses the improvement of the mechanism of sanctions against Russian oil, which despite the restriction of the price limit of $ 60 and the fight against the "shadow" fleet of Russia. More than 100 people and 40 companies are expected to affect new sanctions.

The last package of sanctions against Russia was agreed by the Ambassadors of the European Union at the end of June this year. It also included measures aimed at counteracting Russia's circumstance of already imposed sanctions. In August, the United States decided to impose sanctions on the Russian Academy of Sciences and its structures. The sanctions mechanisms also spread to the Institute of Solid Body Physics named after Yu. A. Osipyana and AM General Physics Institute Prokhorov.

The restrictions also did not miss two Russian container ships - Sasco Angara and Paramushir. At the end of the summer, the United States announced the expansion of the sanctions package and the imposition of restrictions against 11 individuals and two Russian companies. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Security Service reported sanctions against 4,000 companies of Russia and the arrest of Russian oligarch assets during 2022-2023 for almost UAH 190 billion.

In addition, the government of Britain has imposed new sanctions in September. The reason for this was the holding of "elections" in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. We will remind, during a meeting with media representatives after the results of the III summit of the European political community, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that new economic levers of influence against the Russian Federation are unfolding slightly more slowly, but they are really used in a new sanction package.
